The ferocious-looking fellow whose picture is being shown onscreen in the Cadet Training flashback, as an example of what Chronic Synchronicity Syndrome turns people into, goes by the name of Jack Waghalter.

Jack Waghalter is the protagonist of the novel Cannibal-King, the third book in Andrew's City of the Watcher trilogy.

The City of the Watcher trilogy is currently out of print, but will soon be re-released in new revised editions from Argawarga Press––the first book, Weird Luck in the City of the Watcher, will be available sometime this coming winter.
