Welcome to The City of the Ever-Open Eye, a frequently recurring location in guest artist Tim Molloy's comics about the odious occultist Mr Unpronounceable.
As we mentioned last week, Chasing Resyk is a crossover between Tim's imaginal world and the world of Weird Luck. Nicky and Andrew took three Weird Luck characters and dropped them into The City of the Ever-Open Eye.
The tall guy in the hat is Special Agent Ethan Rex of the Reality Patrol. We already met Agent Rex, when he was many years younger and considerably less confident, in the earlier prequel tale Ethan Rex and the Ghostly Abbott.
His partner in the dark glasses is Special Agent Margarita Ruiz. This is Agent Ruiz's very first time appearing in comic format, but readers of Weird Luck prose fiction may remember her as the star of Nicky's interdimensional BDSM rom-com novelette Ruiz and the Echo Hotel, published in the anthology Weird Luck Tales #8. Chasing Resyk takes place about a year before the beginning of Ruiz and the Echo Hotel.
As you may have guessed from the title of the story, the third Weird Luck character we've dropped into The City of the Ever-Open Eye is none other than Arthur Resyk, to whom we were introduced in another of our prequel tales, The Misfortune of Monsieur Dimanche.
In addition to being a Weird Luck / Mr Unpronounceable crossover, Chasing Resyk is a sequel of sorts to The Misfortune of Monsieur Dimanche. In that story, Madeline de Verninac offered Resyk a resource that set him on a particular path; in this story, we get a glimpse of the consequences. So even though Madeline herself doesn't appear in Chasing Resyk, the events unfolding here are, in a way, her fault.
